Firefox 3 Development Features and R/W/R Web

When Marcio asked about specific differences in FF 2 and FF 3

I won’t be covering Firefox 3 milestone information in terms of listed features or dates.

The nature of Firefox 3 project is open and subject to changes and input from the community itself — that in fact is a core value of the project. I m gathering data about the number of individuals ( from the community ) testing the product. I prefer to not be black or white about FF 2 and 3 and pretty much focus on the stream of innovation the Firefox / Mozilla community does ( the curves to reach ). A good example of an important feature to the Web’s future, is SVG text, which allows a vector graphic to have text in it. For example, an image object that is apparently graphic ( can be artistic too ) becomes more than that, as it can be described in XML – it becomes accessible, for example to screen readers.

Key feature in Development in Firefox 3 – Places

An key feature currently in development for Firefox 3 is Places. There is a strong alignment between Places and Tim Berners-Lee original vision about the Web — the intercreativity aspect of it. Places is an evolution to the idea of Bookmarks. And end-user should be able to annotate the information when they experience the Web. More than accessing, the user becomes part of it with an involvement, as the tool supports data organization and mapping. It also offers an important function since it is offered as an API. It means that third-party application and extension developers can define their visualizations or ways to add or manipulate information in this new personal storage. Unlike other projects, Places keeps the information with the end-user, and does not store it on specific servers.

Which brings us to Privacy and Security

The Mozilla project is well-known for its commitment

Graphics exposed in XML – meaningful and interactive objects

Not yet pages are written with XML-based graphics. The one-click blog-about effect is pretty specific to text, Video blogging, and other customization offered by Web sites. If you look to the current state of image graphics, it still requires lots of behind the scenes work, as if you needed a Photoshop expert to push the bits online.

With SVG, this pushing bits story changes completelly and aligns much more with the idea of blogging. Mozilla brought SVG to browsers from some time, and there are continuous improvements. With Firefox 3, we will see SVG Text and SVG filters. These are important components so that graphics can be pushed to Web applications in the future. And as we reach more functions in the SVG space, we will reach a condition where authoring applications will offer ways to add SVG and manipute them in associated documents. It’s a natural step in the evolution of images.
